Political program

I am a candidate for the municipal elections of March 3, 2010. Foreigners who registered in Amsterdam can also vote. I am in 8th place for the liberal party VVD.

As I am active on behalf of the gay community, I have a clear purpose:

for every gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender to be completely free from any hindrance or anxiety and to be able to shape their lives according to their own discretion.

This means that:

• the community are perceived as a positive value rather than as something odd
• that homosexuality can and should be visible everywhere
• that homosexuality is fully accepted at school, the sports club, work, on the street, or wherever you are together with others

There is still much to be gained in all these areas.

For the gay community in Amsterdam, I also wish to commit myself to:

• a safe climate for living and residing throughout Amsterdam and not just in the centre of the Reguliersdwarsstraat
• more initiatives in the fields of culture, hotel and catering, and events for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders
• the establishment of the International Gay Chamber of Commerce in Amsterdam
• the promotion of social acceptance for gays and lesbians at schools, sports clubs, in the workplace, and in ethnic and religious circles by means of education, gay/straight alliances, and neighbourhood initiatives, the so-called  "code pinks"
• that Amsterdam show solidarity with gays and lesbians in the countries where they still have difficulties
